Subject: Ten dimensions (and how it works) :-)
Hi all
Thanks for the chat at Maccas this morning Chris, Dave, John. Ok, here are some simple introductory facts and scriptures , yep, from my perspective :-)
Firstly, what are the space - time dimensions (or measurements)?
The zero dimension is a single (invisible) point.
1 dimension – measures a line.
2 dimensions – measures an area.
3 dimensions - ok, so now we have depth, so we can not only measure it, we can see it, taste it, touch it, walk around it, etc, etc :-)
4 dimensions – it includes a measurement of time, a point in time.
All these measurements are of course a human construct, based on our human, somewhat fleshly perception of space and time.
And at the sub-atomic level in quantum physics, it is theorised that very small particles live in a ten dimensional world (plus that eleventh dimension of time). Most of these tiny particles are "curled up" in tiny spaces we can't see, hence our inability to describe them.
String Theory On a related subject click here for the wormhole (tunnel), also referred to as the Einstein–Rosen bridge, first coined in 1957 by John Wheeler as a speculative structure linking disparate points in spacetime.
We are aware of the three dimensions that surround us on a daily basis - those that define the length, width, and depth of all objects we perceive (the x, y, and z axes, respectively).
The theoretical framework of "string theory", aka superstring theory, posits that the universe exists in ten different dimensions.
The fact that we can perceive only four dimensions of space can be explained by one of two mechanisms: either the extra dimensions are compactified on a very small scale, or else our world may live on a 3-dimensional submanifold corresponding to a brane, on which all known particles besides gravity would be restricted (aka. brane theory).
A 0-brane is a zero-dimensional object, a point; a 1-brane is a one-dimensional object, a string; a 2-brane is a two-dimensional object, a membrane; and a p-brane is a p-dimensional object, for values of p up to 9.

So what should be our perception, according to scripture ?
Firstly, God is a spirit (pneuma) - the Greek word for wind, you can feel it, you can hear it, but can have difficulty telling about its origin or its destination. Yes, God hides himself.
Isaiah 45:15 Truly you are a God that hides yourself (keeps yourself secret), O God of Israel, the Saviour.
John 3:8 The wind (spirit) blows where it intends, and you hear the sound thereof, but can not tell from where it comes, and where it goes: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.
Acts 2:2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
God is light (we define this outwardly as electro-magnetic radiation - "waves" like visible water). God is a consuming fire.
And inwardly, in the Kingdom of Heaven, it refers to God’s word, freely given, freely revealed. And frequently humbling, yes, but always letting God’s people know what to do, where to go.
Psalms 119:105 Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light to my path.
Isaiah 8:19-20 (Should not a people seek) To the law and to the testimony (repeated, again and again): if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.
2 Peter 1:19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereto you do well that you take heed, as to a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
God is love. God's word became flesh (and blood) at the appointed time, and God’s Son, in obedience to the Father through the Holy Spirit, shed his blood (without sound, as a sheep being shorn) and showed God’s love for us all. Ok, the scientists (and Nachmanides) tend to struggle on this metaphysical concept, it involves the Trinity :-)
The Jews then grumbled around him, because he said, I am the bread which came down from heaven. |
|
And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how is it then that he says, I came down from heaven? |
|
Jesus therefore answered and said to them, Do not grumble among yourselves. |
|
No man can come to me, except the Father who has sent me draw him: and I will raise him up on the last day. |
|
It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. All therefore, hearing of the Father, and learning, come to me. |
|
Not that any man has beheld the Father, except the one who is of God, he has beheld the Father. |
Blessings all Steve
